Mayors of the world’s leading cities, CEOs, climate experts and inspiring young female leaders will gather in February 2019 for the third annual Women4Climate Conference.
On 21 February 2019, Paris mayor and C40 chair Anne Hidalgo will bring together fellow mayors and leaders for this half-day event which will demonstrate and accelerate the power of women who are committed to creating a healthier, greener and more economically prosperous future.
Climate change is not fair, and women are disproportionately impacted by its effects around the globe. Women are also under-represented in decision-making that addresses the causes and impacts of climate change. Yet 2018 has seen more women than ever before running for political office and holding positions of power. When it comes to cities, women have smashed the glass ceiling: since just 2014, the number of C40 member cities with women mayors has skyrocketed from four to 20.
Through the thriving Women4Climate Mentorship Programme, C40 and partners aim to empower 500 young women around the world to become the climate leaders we need to build the future we can trust. These climate heroines of the world of tomorrow will take centre stage at the conference.
C40 also recently launched the Women4Climate Tech Challenge, a global competition designed to spark innovation and accelerate climate solutions from women, with the purpose to foster the 21st century as the first century designed and reinvented by women, in our collective history. The results of this competition will be unveiled during the Women4Climate Conference in Paris.
