By the Board of the ITC-SA

It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you of the passing of a dear friend, member, and colleague, Leon Bekker. Leon passed away on 30 April 2020.

Dear Members and Valued Stakeholders,

Leon was a valued Director and Member of the Institute for Timber Construction South Africa (ITC-SA) since August 2014 and will be sorely missed.

Together with a group of dedicated individuals passionate about promoting the timber construction industry in South Africa, Leon helped to establish the then-Timber Frame Builders Association (TFBA), which followed through as an integral part of the ITC-SA.

Leon was a man of the highest integrity, a shining example of gentle, yet firm leadership, and a model of authenticity. He was and will continue to be admired and respected by his staff, colleagues, and the industry at large.

Leon’s passing will leave a huge void in many lives, but he will always be remembered as a man devoted to and passionate about the greater timber family and its role in building a better, more equitable South Africa.

More than a beacon in our industry, Leon was also a dear son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. We ask that you keep Leon’s family close to your hearts as they navigate this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Mr B.
