TiQ would like to extend sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Stella Maphiri, and to her friends and colleagues at the dtic. Stella contributed so much to support the shared vision of timber industry stakeholders.
Stella Maphiri was an accomplished strategic and policy expert with over 16 years’ experience in the private and public sectors within various areas of the Forestry and Forest Products industry. She also possessed experience with climate change issues, environmental and sustainable management. In-depth and sound knowledge in forestry and wood processing, sustainable buildings and energy efficiency matters, sustainable value chains, production, trade, and consumption of wood-based products. Strong stakeholder engagement with communication and influencing skills to engage and work collaboratively with various groups. She had a great knowledge of policy, regulatory, legislative frameworks, and processes.
Close to her heart was the project that she was currently heading on the promotion of the use of engineered timber in the built environment. She was doing this work with all relevant stakeholders who share a common understanding that the promotion of mass timber is vital in creating the much-needed market in the wood processing industry and that it would need to be done through the implementation of a strategy that creates awareness and promoting green buildings as well as developing the skills needed to implement such.
Stella’s passing is a great loss to the forestry industry and government.
